We have 43 "new" photos of New York Central to share with you -- and this is
just the tip of the iceberg. We have about 100 more similar ones to post as soon
as we cam get them ready; it takes about five minutes per picture to do our
preparation work, so we're in for a "long slog." These pictures are from the B.
Volkmer collection which has recently become available -- we're seeking more
information about Mr. Volkmer and his collection -- and Ken Borg has forwarded

We do not know the details of these photos, below, which were forwarded to us by
Kenneth Borg of Dearborn, MI, but we have posted them because of their
historical significance to the New York Central and PennCentral. We will update
the pictures if and when we get additional information about them.
The photos, below, are from the Canada Southern's yards, which were shared
with Canadian Pacific, in the Toronto area. Canada Southern was a NYC
subsidiary, and set up its Geeps to run short hood forward, which was the
opposite of NYC's long-hood-forward policy.
The 10 black-and-white photos are of the Canada Southern / New York Central's shops in St. Thomas. Ontario, but the dates are unknown. These are real finds
because their negatives, and 14 others, were found tucked inside a book which
was recently given to a railroad historical group. A summer intern discovered
this hidden treasure when he was going through the book to prepare it for the
library.
The three color photos were taken on a bitterly cold New Year's Day 1973 at
the PC roundhouse in Fort Wayne, IN.
